The Gaming Utopia
“In loving memory of our beloved mother, whose unwavering support, boundless wisdom, and endless encouragement have been the foundation of our every step in life. Her strength, nurturing spirit, and tireless belief in our dreams continue to inspire us to push boundaries, innovate, and strive for excellence. This exhibition is a reflection of her guiding influence, and it stands as a testament to the values she has instilled in us. For all she has given us and the world, we are forever grateful.”
“Let’s immerse until the game’s over,
Let’s live!”
Game on: Level-up. City for Gamers.
The design research project titled “The Game City, Gaming World” was initiated and conceptualized at NN (NoNames Design Research and Studies) in 2014. However, the original concept began taking shape as far back as the early 1980s, when we received our first IBM 8086, after years of exploring digital worlds with the Amiga 500 and Commodore 64.
As members of the first generation of dedicated computer programmers and gamers, we spent countless hours envisioning our “gaming utopia,” a space where graphics optimization and gameplay could flourish. Even though the technology back then lagged behind our aspirations, it was during these early years that we organized our first neighborhood gaming tournament, planting the seeds of what would become our lifelong passion.
Today’s exhibition brings to life the cherished dreams of our youth—dreams we have nurtured and refined for over 40 years. This project is our tribute to the creative, talented, and committed “designers and gamers” who push the boundaries of what’s possible. It represents a major leap towards building a collaborative platform where designers and gamers alike can contribute meaningfully.
We dedicate this project to all “Game Lovers,” especially those who find joy in the essence of gaming, seeing its magic “behind and before” every world. And though we deeply miss the days of uninterrupted play, we hold onto the hope that one day, we’ll have the time to play again as we did in those beloved early days.
